Talk about one top dog.
A formerly abused shelter pup alerted his owners to a naked toddler found lying in a ditch, after she used what her owners are calling her “sixth sense.” The pups heroic actions led to a chain reaction of events that saved the life of one other child from what authorities are calling an “unsafe and unsanitary” home.
The dog, who was named Petunia, was rescued from an abusive home herself and brought to the no kill Delta Animal Shelter in Escanaba, Michigan. There, rescue workers discovered gruesome injuries to Petunia, who was later renamed peanut, which included a broken leg, rug burns, and a stomach filled with carpet.
Thankfully, Peanut was adopted and given a new lease on life, before she saved the lives of two other toddlers. According to Peanuts owner,
“She was running up and down the stairs, barking and yelping. She then went and got my husband, who was in the garage working on some projects, and alerted him that she wanted to go outside.”
Peanut then bolted out of the door and led her owner to a wooded area, where he discovered a small 3-year-old infant girl shivering, laying in a ditch. The man immediately scooped her up, wrapped his sweatshirt around her, and brought her inside his home.
The police were called and the girl was remanded to the custody of the Michigan Child Protective Services (MCPS)where she remains. Police eventually located her parents, and after completing an inspection at the home concluded that the home was unsafe and unsanitary for the other child living there. MCPS also seized the child.
Escabana Police are conducting an investigation, and have not determined if charges will be filed against the unnamed girls parents. Peanut is a true American hero!
