For 27-year-old Kellen Jones of Memphis, Tennessee, the days are not going to get any easier from this point forward, after he was charged with felony animal cruelty for starving his pup. According to a police report obtained exclusively by Fidoplanet. Neighbors had grown concerned with barking and howling noises at an address once occupied by Jones, leading police to the home to investigate the complaint.
The officers who arrived on the scene were shocked by the squalor and the manner in which the home was kept, before making it to the backyard of the property, where they were greeted by an emaciated dog named Nino.
Officers were told by the former neighbors of Jones, that he had vacated the property three months earlier, leaving Nino all alone to fend for himself without food and water. Animal control was eventually called to the scene to retrieve Nino. Remarkably, Nino, who survived three months with limited food and water, is expected to make a full recovery. Doctors who examined him believe that he more than likely survived eating feces, rocks and dead animals.
As for Jones, he was tracked down at his new residence, and questioned by detectives. Jones reportedly told investigators that he could no longer afford to care for Nino because he was “running low on funds” and in poor shape financially. After this stunning admission of guilt, officers placed Jones under arrest and charged him with one count of felony animal cruelty.
If convicted of the charge, Jones, who is presently free on bail, could spend up to five years in prison and receive a fine of up to $25,000.
