For 58-year-old Houston, Texas native Dwain Ray Riley, the days are not going to get any easier from this moment forward, after he was arrested and charged with first degree, felony animal cruelty. According to an arrest affidavit obtained exclusively by Fidoplanet, Police say Riley tied his small eight week Labrador pup named Mud and attached him to his vehicle, after coaxing the timid pup outside, while dangling treats in front of him, according to witness testimony given to police.
Riley is then alleged to tie the pup up to a hitch on the back of his truck around his neck, duct taped his muzzle, beat him with a crowbar, before dragging Mud while driving approximately 10 to 15 miles per hour. Mud, who began barking and pleading for help, was able to free himself from the rope around his neck. The quick thinking, injured pup then stumbled to a nearby wooded area, where a neighbor shepherded him to safety.
Houston Police was called to the scene and after questioning a visibly inebriated Riley, arrested him without incident. If convicted of the animal cruelty charge, Riley could face up to two years in prison and fines of up to $10,000.
As for the Mud, police would not comment on his whereabouts, only confirming that he is, in fact, being treated for his injuries.
